Urban Lab 2 tasked us with using our knowledge from Urban Lab 1 with a site located in Oxford. Although at first glance, the site may seem relatively easy to design, there were many limiting factors to the area. These included site size, restrictions from the council as well as pre-existing plans for the site. The main aim was to provide further housing without causing mass issues to the nearby retail units and existing residential dwellings. My final design consisted of two housing blocks with a total of 8 flats with balconies. As well as this there was a large green space with a park and other amenities for the nearby located school.
Urban Lab 2 consisted of a smaller scale project in terms of area size with the task being focused on architecture and open space design in Oxford. The site was Union Street located behind a busy Cowley Road along with many amenities already situated in the area.
We also had to understand how the project would play out financially by using Excel in order to calculate if our project would be profitable.
Below is my work completed in the second semester. Although I am aware this is not the greatest work ever produced, I think it exemplifies my progression as the course has continued. In addition to this, it has also shown my commitment to the design element of the course which is something I have struggled with.
